ESC/EAS Guidelines for the management of dyslipidaemias (2019)

European Society of Cardiology / European Atherosclerosis Society · 31 August 2019

Status Current, with a 2025 focused update

The European dyslipidaemia guideline that entrenched the lower-is-better LDL-C position and set the goals every CETP inhibitor is now measured against. It contains no recommendation for CETP inhibition, because no such drug was approved or had a positive outcomes trial to its name.

This document matters here for the frame it set rather than anything it says about CETP. By making apoB-containing lipoprotein burden the target and pushing goals downward, it defined the space obicetrapib is being developed into: patients who remain above goal on maximally tolerated oral therapy.

As of August 2026 no CETP inhibitor appears in this or any other major guideline as a recommended therapy.
